Primary responsibilities of this technical position will be working with zebrafish.
Primary responsibilities of this technical position will be microinjection ofRNAandDNAinto zebrafish embryos to assist in characterizing a tumor model of childhood central nervous system cancer. The candidate will screen fish for tumor formation, as well as perform molecular and biochemical assays (qPCR, Western analysis) and immunohistochemistry on tumor samples. Depending upon their qualifications, the candidate will be trained in several molecular biology and genetic techniques, including using bioinformatics to identify genes, cloning genes into expression vectors and preparingDNAandRNAprobes. General laboratory responsibilities will include contributing to the maintenance of a zebrafish colony (involving feeding, water quality analysis, tank/filtration maintenance and fish husbandry), preparing materials for general molecular biology techniques (making buffers), ordering reagents and maintenance of equipment.
Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or other scientific disciplines in a related field or equivalency required; knowledge of complex laboratory techniques, equipment, terminology, materials and substances. Skilled in the use of laboratory equipment, ability to create and analyze statistical calculations and prepare reports required; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.OSHAtraining and certification in animal care and use or the willingness to complete the certification may be required by some departments.
