Performs advanced laboratory techniques and procedures in an immunology research laboratory with minimal direct supervision. Performs studies by applying standard scientific techniques, recording observations and measurements, applying appropriate analytical principles and reporting results. Will take a lead role in lab management, including ordering and maintenance of material and equipment, oversight of other lab personnel and veterinary technical support for animal model studies.
1.Performs and directs specialized and complex lab tests, either independently or in a team setting with other lab members.
2.Assists the Principal Investigator in the design, implementation and performance of new protocols and procedures as well as the modification of existing techniques.
3.Reviews scientific journals, abstracts and other literature for information concerning experimental procedures.
4.Makes advanced statistical calculations, analyzes data and prepares reports summarizing research results.
5.Operates complex and highly specialized laboratory instruments and equipment. Instructs others in their use.
6.Must be willing to work with research mice, will perform duties to manage research mouse colony, and collect animal tissues and specimens for laboratory analysis.
7.Maintains a log of supplies used in procedures and oversees purchasing of laboratory supplies and materials.
8.May supervise, train and review the work of laboratory personnel.

Work Environment and Level of Frequency that may be required:
Nearly Continuously: Office environment.
Often: Infectious disease, oils ( there is air or skin exposure to oils or other cutting fluids ), hazards ( includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals ).
Seldom: Exposure to animals.
Physical Requirements and Level of Frequency that may be required
Nearly Continuously: Hearing, listening, talking.
Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing), walking, standing, sitting.
Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead.
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry or other scientific discipline or equivalency; two years full-time laboratory experience; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. Working knowledge of advanced scientific techniques and procedures as well as the ability to make statistical calculations, analyze results, prepare reports and perform specialized tests also required.

A BS/BA degree in biology, biochemistry, or related field. The candidate be able to learn and apply laboratory techniques and skills, and will perform experiments under the supervision and training of the principal investigator or other senior lab personnel. Experience and/or understanding of flow cytometry,RNAandDNAisolation/preparation, sequencing,PCR, and other cellular and molecular biology techniques, as well as prior experience working with experimental animals, is preferred. The candidate be able to generate accurate and detailed research reports and laboratory records. Strong computer skills and the ability to learn and operate laboratory equipment is important to success in this position. Excellent communication skills, the ability to work with others, and a strong work ethic/enthusiasm for conducting research.
