The Leung Laboratory (www.globalguthealth.org) in the Division of Infectious Diseases is seeking an experienced laboratory technician to work on immunology projects relating to mucosal infections. We have a number of ongoing animal and clinical studies looking at innate lymphocyte responses during respiratory and intestinal infections and sepsis. Responsibilities of the position will include animal care, clinical specimen processing, and performance of immunological and molecular assays. The candidate will be under the supervision of the laboratory PI and other senior laboratory personnel.
• Perform tissue culture and manipulation, including cryopreservation and thawing of cells
• Perform animal care, interventions, and collection of tissue
• Analyze cell phenotype and function using immunological and molecular techniques, including flow cytometry,RNAsequencing,ELISA, and RT-PCR
• Analyze data using statistical software and generate reports of results
• Ensure proper collection and processing of specimens from clinical studies, including the extraction, culture, and cryopreservation of cells from human tissue (including blood and tissue biopsies)
• Maintain a database for specimen collection from clinical studies
• Monitor and assist with purchasing of laboratory supplies and materials
• Organize shipments to and from international collaborators and field sites
• Prepare and submit documents forEHSapproval of laboratory procedures

Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry or other scientific discipline or equivalency; two years full-time laboratory experience; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. Working knowledge of advanced scientific techniques and procedures as well as the ability to make statistical calculations, analyze results, prepare reports and perform specialized tests also required.
