TheADDProgram is a contract site funded throughNINDSdedicated to testing drugs to treat epilepsy. Employees perform technical procedures in a research laboratory under minimal supervision by applying standard scientific techniques and analytical principles. The lab specialist will perform experiments, record observations, and report results. The lab specialist is responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining lab space and equipment. May assist with ordering of supplies.
1. Works with senior laboratory personnel regarding procedures and techniques to be used, and apply modifications as needed.
2. Able to calculate drug formulations.
3. Assists with purchasing of laboratory supplies and materials.
4. Makes statistical calculations, analyzes data, and prepares reports summarizing methods and data obtained.
5. May oversee operations of student laboratory research projects

Work Environment and Level of Frequency that may be required:
Nearly Continuously: Office environment.
Often: Infectious disease, oils ( there is air or skin exposure to oils or other cutting fluids ), hazards ( includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals ).
Seldom: Exposure to animals.
Physical Requirements and Level of Frequency that may be required
Nearly Continuously: Hearing, listening, talking.
Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing), walking, standing, sitting.
Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead.
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry or other scientific discipline or equivalency; two years full-time laboratory experience; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. Working knowledge of advanced scientific techniques and procedures as well as the ability to make statistical calculations, analyze results, prepare reports and perform specialized tests also required.
Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
Knowledge of complex laboratory techniques, equipment, terminology, materials and substances.
Skilled in dose calculations, administering drugs, collecting samples and using laboratory equipment.
Ability to utilize statistical calculations and prepare reports.
Demonstrated human relations and effective communications skills are required.
