Performs advanced laboratory techniques and procedures in a research laboratory. May provide veterinary technical support for animal model studies.
Carry out experiments, collect data, and conduct data analyses under the guidance of the PI. Assist others in conducting experiments and analyzing data. Communicate with the PI about the results of the experiments, project goals, and time lines. Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of all the lab equipment and space. Monitor the use of animals and supplies, place orders as necessary, and maintain all the ordering records. Prepare solutions for experiments as necessary.
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry or other scientific discipline or equivalency; two years full-time laboratory experience; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. Working knowledge of advanced scientific techniques and procedures as well as the ability to make statistical calculations, analyze results, prepare reports and perform specialized tests also required.
Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
Dexterity is required as most experiments involve complex dissection under stereomicroscopes. Two years of prior experience in research lab preferred. Experience in conducting physiological research preferred. Familiarity with the standard operation of a biological research lab, including handling of waste materials and ordering of supplies and equipment preferred. Must be available for work as per the needs of the experiments at early hours of the day, at the request of the PI. Strong verbal and social communication skills preferred. Strong organizational skills, including general organizing of lab space, planning, time management, scheduling of experiments, and meeting deadlines preferred. Curiosity preferred.
