Job Summary

Daily utilization of industry washers and autoclaves in the cleaning and sterilization processes of laboratory glassware/plastic ware for approximately 20-30 wet research labs throughout the Huntsman Cancer Institute research buildings. Responsibilities include inventory, collection, sorting/configuring, and delivery of lab provided glassware daily. Manages and shares equipment and cycles multiple times daily. May assist in large scale Media Preparation and other tasks as needed.

Applicant possesses strong visual motor skills, spatial reasoning and prefers hands-on learning. Demonstrates manual dexterity, and must be able to repetitively grip and manipulate bottles and lids. Pushes/pulls/maneuvers carts around personnel/laboratory spaces. Continuously handles hazardous/corrosive chemicals, sharps, hot, slippery glass and liquids. Maneuvers and operates heavy equipment multiple times daily. Environment is moderately loud, and warm.

Demonstrates attention to detail, excellent time management skills and ability to follow direction. Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions and to keep accurate records is required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required. Decent handwriting and basic math skills required.

This position is considered Category I: Mandatory and required on campus or health care facilities to support on-site operations. Employees hired into this category will be required to be physically located at HCI if they are healthy and without COVID -19 symptoms.

Physical Requirements and Level of Frequency that may be required:

Hearing, listening, talking.

Repetitive hand motion, walking, standing, sitting, bending, reaching overhead.

Repetitively lift up to 30-40 lbs.

Push/Pull loaded carts and cages (50+100 lbs.)

Utilizes step stools/ladders

Minimum Qualifications

One year full-time laboratory experience or equivalency required (1 year full-time lab equivalency equals successful completion of 2 semesters laboratory (college) course work) ; knowledge of laboratory techniques, equipment and terminology as well as knowledge of chemical and physical properties of materials or substances and appropriate specimen handling techniques required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required. OSHA training and certification in animal care and use or the willingness to complete the certification may be required by some departments.
