Performs fish feeding and dish washing in a large fish facility. This position doesNOTprovide research lab experience.
Large multi-laboratory zebrafish facility in the Univ of Utah Health Sciences Center needs part-time workers to help feed fish and wash tanks in the facility, which houses 6000 aquaria. Duties include food prep, feeding fish, tank cleaning, dish washing, and general housekeeping. We are looking for highly responsible, alert, and energetic people who are comfortable with animal care and simple record keeping.
The incumbent follows well-established laboratory procedures to complete work. Sensitive or unusual situations are referred to the supervisor. Work is frequently reviewed for accuracy and to ensure adherence to research protocols.
Work Environment and Level of Frequency that may be required:
Nearly Continuously: Moving around between rooms of fish tank racks.
Often: Doing dishes.
Physical Requirements and Level of Frequency that may be required
Nearly Continuously: The fish rooms are warm and humid.
This is an entry level position and on the job training is provided. The ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions; the ability to keep accurate records; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required.
A general knowledge of laboratory procedures, equipment and terminology; the ability to operate and care for laboratory equipment; and a knowledge of appropriate specimen handling techniques preferred.
Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
Preference is given to individuals available for at least 2 weekday shifts per week.
