This position is considered Category I: Mandatory and required on campus or health care facilities to support on-site operations. Employees hired into this category will be required to be physically located at the International Student and Scholar Services office if they are healthy and without COVID -19 symptoms.
The ISSS Peer Advisor is a part-time position for current University of Utah students to work in the International Student & Scholar Services office to support and assist international students, scholars, and the campus community. Provides front office support, basic information and student peer advising. Must commit to at least one academic year of employment (fall, spring and summer semesters).
1. Serves as the first point of contact for students, scholars and community members at the ISSS front desk
2. Answers telephones, providing assistance and directing students and scholars to the correct person or office
3. Schedules appointments and arranges meetings
4. Provides basic immigration peer advising to the international student community
5. Answers questions about the organization and associated activities
6. Manages general email accounts
7. Assists with word processing and data entry projects
8. Processes and distributes mail
9. Contributes to ISSS’ social media presence
10. Contributes to the ISSS Monthly Newsletter
11. Other reception, clerical, and office duties as assigned
. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
. Ability to work with frequent interruptions
. Experience working with diverse and/or international populations
. Interest in government policy and regulations
. Interest in the profession of international education exchange or related professions
. Be able to take initiative and work independently
. Show passion for international student issues
. Ability to speak one or more languages in addition to English preferred
