Job Summary

The Center for Technology & Venture Commercialization (TVC) at the University of Utah is seeking an Intellectual Property (IP) Coordinator to be an invaluable asset in a small, but highly important team. We are looking for a hardworking, competent, and good natured individual to assist the Director of Intellectual Property.

TVCserves as a catalyst for on campus discoveries and innovation. We are responsible for all aspects of invention management, patent prosecution, licensing, startup formation and support, early stage funding and bringing important discoveries to market. The IP team specifically coordinates with University outside counsel, University inventors, and other institutions to properly manage and protect University IP assets. The IP Coordinator’s primary responsibilities would be to assist the Director of Intellectual Property in corresponding with our outside counsel and University inventors, managing the technology database, and preparing meetings and executing action items. A fuller description of responsibilities can be found below.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a primary point of contact for all University IP matters

• Notifying University inventors and business partners of relevant IP matters

• Prepare and organize weekly intellectual property meetings – i.e. – prepare agendas, communicate with members, track action items and follow-up

• Perform various administrative functions including filing, data entry, scanning, printing and document collection and storage

• Assist the Director of Intellectual Property as requested

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalency plus one year of experience required. The ability to provide guidance and give direction to staff members in other departments and divisions and excellent human relations and written and verbal communication skills are also required

Additional consideration will be given to candidates with three or more years experience in a legal environment. Certification as a paralegal may be preferred.
