THE UNIVERSITY OF UTAH IS HIRING INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGISTS TO JOIN OUR GROWING TEAM! At the U we perform a wide variety of cases, both outpatient based and inpatient cases, often which are emergency and life-saving procedures. Our Interventional Radiology (IR) division is growing and we have a diverse group of energetic physicians (growing from 4 to 9), wonderful nurse colleagues and a solid cadre of enthusiastic techs. We are expanding in case volume and facilities and need more technologists to help with this busy and exciting time in our IR group. We recently opened our new state of the art facility at University Hospital inclusive of 3 procedure bays as well as our own prep and recovery floor. In addition to University Hospital, we operate out of the Clinical Neurosciences as well as the newly remodeled Huntsman Cancer Hospital each offering exposure to unique patient populations. Graduating X-ray students, current X-ray students and current IR techs or techs of other modalities are all encouraged to apply. We train all new hires for a period of 4 months to allow full exposure to the wide breadth of procedures that are done here at the U. Continuing education of the technologists are of paramount importance in our group with both informal and formal lectures given to the technologists. This position is responsible for performing angiography and specialized abdominal and neurovascular types of interventional radiology.

This position may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to State Law.

  • Prepares patient and equipment for catheterization procedures by preparing site of entry, draping patient, arranging sterilized instruments and catheters, and calibrating and setting-up pressure transducers and tubing.

  • Performs specialized vascular and neuro procedures.

  • Selects and modifies technical factors to produce optimum diagnostic results with the least practical radiation exposure to the patient.

  • Assists and supports the physician during specialized vascular and neuro radiographic procedures.

  • Administers contrast media under direct supervision of a physician.

  • Assists with the department's quality control program.

  • Tests, monitors and maintains equipment for proper and safe operation.

  • May act as a preceptor and instruct new technologists and students.

  • Restocks supplies when time allows.

  • Maintains availability on a rotational call schedule for procedures after normal hours.

  • Supports the Vascular OR with tech coverage.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Demonstrated potential ability to perform the essential functions as outlined above.

  • Ability to provide care to the population served.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.

  • Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.

  • Ability to identify and solve problems effectively.


Qualifications Required

  • Ability to complete ARRT Registration for Vascular Interventional Radiography (VI) within one year of hire.

Licenses Required

  • Current licensure to practice as a Radiologic Technologist in the State of Utah.

  • ARRT Registration as a Radiologic Technician R.T. ( R) (ARRT).

  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.

Qualifications (Preferred)


  • Six months of Angiography experience preferred.

  • ARRT Registration as R.T. (VI).

  • ACLS may be required by some departments.
