Job Summary

Develops and implements client solutions for the Operational Excellence business unit of the University of Utah Manufacturing Extension Partnership Center (MEPCenter). Includes responsibility for client acquisition, service delivery and post evaluation, continuous improvement and quality management.

Responsibilities

Individual will be responsible the for the lean office and manufacturing, quality and operations management portion of the Operational Excellence business unit, which includes quality management andISOcompliance, lean office and manufacturing. Will interact with key partnerships such as the Small Business Development Centers (SBDC), Business Resource Centers (BRC) andAPICS. Will also assess method of service delivery be it by outside consultants, contractors or direct service delivery.

Essential Functions

Generate client sales via in-person visits, phone calls, emails, networking, and site-visits throughout Utah.

Ability to implement sales strategies including client recruitment, business development, networking and account management

Develop business opportunities with new, existing, and pastMEPCenter client companies

Be adaptable with results oriented, excellent problem solving, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Prepare proposals and contracts for both clients and resource providers

Public speaking/presenting to multi-level audience—briefings, technical program overviews, training sessions

Collect financial impact data at end of each completed project

Follow-up and complete theNISTsurvey with clients 6-12 months after project completion

Stay abreast of latest programs or services in operational excellence.

Sets goals and milestones for the OpEx business unit.

Maintain an up to date financial and accounting impact of the business unit.

Minimum Qualifications

Require a bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of experience or equivalency in the field or in a related area.

Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferences

Master’s degree and 10 years or more of direct lean manufacturing experience and quality systems in a manufacturing setting, knowledge of the Utah manufacturing industry, and experience working with small- and medium-sized businesses. Possess an entrepreneurial mindset and go-getter mentality.
