Simulation Center Faculty Position

Instructor, Assistant Professor, or Associate Professor (Clinical)

The University of Utah College of Nursing ( CON ) seeks a full time (1.0 FTE ) faculty member to oversee the teaching, curricular development, and integration of simulation pedagogy for the CON and the Simulation Center.

Principal Functions and Responsibilities: Candidates should have expertise in healthcare simulation education. This career-line faculty member will use simulation to teach undergraduate and graduate nursing students as well as students from other health care disciplines. Primary responsibilities include teaching in the CON Simulation Center, evaluating simulation events, and coordinating simulation programs for undergraduate and graduate students.

Specific Work Activities Include the Following:

•Develop and teach curriculum regarding advanced simulation debriefing and simulation facilitation.

•Ensure simulation faculty facilitators and clinical simulation educators follow simulation best-practices and provide high-quality learning experiences for student participants.

•Assist in selecting, supervising, and evaluating simulation faculty facilitators.

•Develop and implement a mentoring process for simulation faculty facilitators and simulation educators.

•Liaise with University of Utah Hospital simulation educators to maintain supportive relationships among faculty and staff.

•Review nursing simulations and programs to ensure alignment with simulation evidence and national accreditation standards.

•Work closely with the simulation executive director to maintain simulation operations, including staffing, equipment, and supplies.

Additional responsibilities include providing ongoing feedback for program and curriculum development, participating on the CON committees, and professional activities/service. Developing clinically-focused scholarship is an expectation for long-term retention and career advancement.

Desired Candidate Criteria:

Graduation from a regionally accredited nursing program is required. A master’s degree in nursing is also required. Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Doctor of Nursing Practice ( DNP ) or enrollment in a PhD or DNP program is preferred. Other considerations include the following:

•Relevant health care experience.

•Expertise in clinical simulation as evidenced by Society for Simulation in Healthcare certification or eligibility for certification within one year of hire.

•Experience debriefing and evaluating high-quality simulation educational events

•Strong organizational and communication skills.

•Excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively with other members of health care and academic teams.

Qualified candidates must hold or be eligible for a Registered Nurse (RN) license in Utah. Work is performed on campus at the Annette Poulson Cumming Building.
