The University of Utah College of Nursing ( CON ) seeks full-time (1.0 FTE ) experienced Registered Nurses (RN) who will serve as Career-line (i.e., non-tenure-line) faculty members with the ability to teach within either the undergraduate (BS) and/or the graduate (MS & DNP ) programs of study.
Principal Functions and Responsibilities: The CON seeks individuals with expertise in areas of nursing education. Responsibilities can include classroom and/or online didactic teaching, student supervision in clinical settings, as well as, teaching in the CON Simulation Center. The CON has specific needs in the areas of foundations of clinical nursing care, mental and behavioral health, acute care pediatrics and maternity, pathophysiology, healthcare systems, informatics, and acute and primary care nursing. Other core areas within the curricula include evidence-based practice; advocacy and collaboration in healthcare; nursing professional roles; leadership and management; physical assessment, wellness, and health promotion; health systems; and pharmacology. Interest in teaching in specific programs or courses depends upon the candidate’s clinical background, qualifications, and certifications. Additional faculty expectations include ongoing program development input and feedback, curriculum development, college committee service, and professional activities/service. Development of clinically focused scholarship is an expectation for long-term retention and advancement in rank.
Criteria: Candidates must be graduates from an accredited College or School of Nursing and either hold a current Utah RN License or be qualified to attain a Utah RN License. Utah is a Nurse Licensure Compact state. Master’s Degree in either Nursing or Health-related field is also required. Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Doctor of Nursing Practice ( DNP ) or enrollment in a PhD or DNP program is desired for teaching in the undergraduate programs of study. A terminal nursing degree (PhD or DNP ) is required for teaching in graduate programs of study. Teaching experience, including student clinical supervision as well as classroom, online, and/or simulation teaching, is preferred. Relevant health care experience, evidence of an established area of clinical expertise, and strong organizational and communication skills are required.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with patients and other members of the health care and academic team are essential. Candidates are required to be located on-site at the College of Nursing.
