University of Utah Health Instructional Designer in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah


This role will be developing lesson plans, practice exercises, quick start guides, end user proficiency assessments, and any additional in-class materials needed for training. Will also help create scripts for online development of additional training material. Does not include online development using authoring tools such as Captivate, Articulate, Camtasia, etc.

The incumbent designs, develops and administers learning solutions for various audiences by developing learning solutions, developing instructional material, coordinating educational content, and evaluating current content. This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients.

  • Uses the ADDIE model and innovative and immersive learning methodologies in curriculum design and development.

  • Uses adult learning theory in course/curriculum design.

  • Conducts training needs analysis to determine training objectives, instructional strategies and project scope.

  • Analyzes quality and operations metrics/KPIs to identify the root causes of performance opportunities.

  • Ensures overall integrity in the learning design and content.

  • Facilitates curriculum in a professional manner.

  • Learns multiple systems and processes quickly.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Demonstrated good judgment and proactive problem solving methods.

  • Flexible self-starter, innovative and creative, excellent verbal and written communications skills.

  • Knowledge in the design and creation of eLearning blended learning solutions.

  • Knowledge of the Instructional Systems design life cycle and application of formal development practices to training projects.

  • Strong communication and project management skills.

  • Flexible with technology and can learn new software and systems quickly, adaptable to new methods.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrates a systematic structured problem solving approach.

  • Must remain current with the technologies identified for the use in adult education.


Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, Communication, Nursing or equivalent.

  • Three years of instructional designer experience or applicable experience.

Qualifications (Preferred)


  • Master's degree.

  • Experience with Epic, Cerner, or other clinical EHR’s.
