Job Summary

Under minimal supervision, responsible for planning, organizing, directing and/or controlling activities to ensure patient care and related business practices comply with HIPAA guidelines, organizational policies and procedures, and other applicable laws.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Manages workflow and tasks, provides leadership, direction, and support to University staff, internal business owners, and external customers.
  • Oversees, coordinates, and conducts audits/investigations to ensure compliance with University, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Analyzes and effectively documents compliance processes. Recommends enhancements to policies and procedures as applicable.
  • Reviews contracts and other legal documents to evaluate HIPAA and Privacy implications.
  • Supports training and education program to enhance institutional compliance awareness.
  • Maintains current knowledge regarding applicable federal and state guidelines, regulations, and Privacy laws.
  • Serves as an expert resource in Privacy compliance and issue resolution.
  • Collaborates with providers, managers, and staff to assist departments, clinics, and service lines in implementing, coordinating, and monitoring compliance practices. This could include recommending enhancements to operating policies and procedures in various departments.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency and four to six years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred.

Preferences

Master’s degree in healthcare related field or JD is preferred. Experience in healthcare is also preferred. CIPP , CISSP , CIMP , or other privacy/security certifications are desired.
