Job Summary

This position is an opportunity to work as a Research Assistant on the University of Utah’s COVID -19 HCQ Trial. This trial is an outpatient randomized controlled trial recruiting COVID positive adults to examine the efficacy of hydroxychloroquine in reducing symptoms, viral shedding and household transmission when prescribed in the first 7 days after COVID diagnosis. Participants are asked to collect oropharyngeal swabs, provide blood samples and complete questionnaires, all while remaining at home.

Research assistants on this project are involved with participant recruitment, specimen kit collection, data entry, patient correspondence and maintaining records among other research related tasks.

One year of research experience, customer service experience, or equivalency required; demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.

Valid U.S. driver license and personal vehicle required.

An understanding of research protocols and procedures preferred.

1.Recruits patients over the phone to participate in clinical research studies.

2.Drives to participant homes using personal vehicle to collect research biospecimen samples for delivery to lab.

3.Communicates with patients over the phone and via email regarding study participation.

4.Helps to prepare and deliver participant materials and specimen collection kits for clinical research studies.

5.Enters information into department’s computer system.

6.Assists research employees in preparing manuscripts and presentation materials by creating slides, charts, graphs and handouts.

7.Maintains up to date files and records of research data.

8.Drafts correspondence to answer inquiries and responds to requests from patients about specific projects.

9.Edits research papers, project reports and publication materials.

10.Arranges for the printing and graphic art requirements for printed materials.

11.Maintains an internal library on project information resources and data collected.

12.Performs quality control through path audits in order to resolve discrepancies and overlaps with data.

13.Schedules appointments, visits and meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
