Job Summary

The Department of Pediatrics in the University of Utah School of Medicine has an immediate opening for an Outpatient Services Specialist. Makes a difference for patients and their families in outpatient care clinics at Primary Children’s Hospital by maximizing efficiency through facilitating and ensuring the accuracy of the information flow between medical staff and subspecialty divisions.

The Outpatient Services Specialist manages health information for patients and pediatric subspecialty clinics. If you are passionate about caring for children and caring for their future, we invite you to consider this opportunity.

This position is housed in a call center, separate from clinic locations.

This position is full-time, 40 hours per week. Regular and punctual attendance is required.

Responsibilities

1.Researches and reports duplicate accounts. Verifies patient demographics.

2.Reviews and mails clinical notes for multiple subspecialty divisions within the Department.

3.Enters health information into patients’ Electronic Medical Record.

4.Manages incoming faxes for multiple divisions and distributes to appropriate areas.

5.Manages correspondence to and from internal and external customers.

6.Performs other related duties as assigned.

Work Environment and Level of Frequency that may be required:

Nearly Continuously: Office environment.

Seldom: Infectious disease, oils ( there is air or skin exposure to oils or other cutting fluids ).

Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing), walking, standing, sitting.

Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of continuous office experience or equivalency; basic computer skills; and successful completion of a medical terminology course provided by the hospital within the first year of employment required. Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills are also required.

Experience withICD-10 andCPT4 coding may be preferred.

One year experience in patient registration, admitting or related work may be preferred.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. Preferences

•Prior experience in health information management

•Typing skills and ten key by touch

•Electronic Medical Record experience, preferably in iCentra

•Knowledge of medical terminology

•Fluent Spanish speaking skills

•Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well within a team environment
