Job Summary

The Department of Family and Preventive Medicine seeks an experienced professional to provide administrative support and guidance to University of Utah faculty and staff while interacting with outside entities in regard to the financial and related elements of sponsored institutional projects.

This position is considered Category IIA : Not required on campus and has the ability to telework remotely for the duration of the University of Utah’s response to COVID -19. An employee hired into this role will be responsible for providing space, telephone, printing, networking and/or internet capabilities at the telecommute location and agree to the terms of the University of Utah campus and Health Academics COVID -19 Telecommuting Agreement.

Responsibilities

1.Prepares, reviews, and finalizes complex financial reports and invoices for submission to sponsoring entities, at an institutional level.

2.Analyzes awards for the creation of projects and associated attributes within the university’s financial system.

3.Provides expert advice, guidance, and training to staff and faculty regarding sponsored awards and appropriate administrative processes.

4.Collects and prepares all relevant financial information for award close-out.

5.May provide information for audits.

6.Assists in solving financial problems related to the administration of awards.

7.Reviews, interprets, and implements sponsoring agency rules and processes corrections to financial statements.

8.Reviews receivables and pursues collection of problem receivables.

9.Communicates and resolves issues with appropriate funding agencies.

10.Maintains current knowledge of federal and university requirements governing externally funded grants and contracts.

11.Provides expertise and guidance to investigators and staff on proposal development and submission, with emphasis on NIH research proposals.

12.Provides Funding Opportunity Announcements summaries and checklists.

13.Prepares complex budgets and draft budget justifications to meet sponsor and university requirements.

14.Assists with proposal development by preparing supporting documents and reviewing proposal against sponsor and university guidelines.

15.Acts as contact for subrecipients and prime sites and coordinates subaward budgets and documents

16.Manages the OSP grant and contract proposal submission process and uploads applications to Cayuse, FastLane, and other submission portals.

17.Assists with post-submission action items requested by sponsors such as “Just In Time” requests.

18.Works effectively and independently under deadlines for multiple projects simultaneously.

19.Assists with some general accounting tasks within the department.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, a related field AND two years related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The ability to work independently, effectively, and efficiently under pressure and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills are also required.
