Job Summary

Performs fish feeding, dish washing, tank cleaning, filter changing, and other job-related duties as assigned. This position does NOT provide research lab experience.

This position is considered Category I: Mandatory and required on campus or health care facilities to support on-site operations. Employees hired into this category will be required to be physically located at (insert work site) if they are healthy and without COVID -19 symptoms.

Responsibilities

Large multi-laboratory zebrafish facility houses approximately 6000 small aquaria in the Univ of Utah Health Sciences Center. Duties include food prep, feeding fish, tank cleaning, dish washing, system maintenance, and general housekeeping. We are looking for a highly responsible individual who is comfortable with animal care, record keeping, and working independently.

Must follow well-established laboratory procedures to complete work. Sensitive or unusual situations are referred to the supervisor. Work is frequently reviewed for accuracy and to ensure adherence to research protocols.

A general knowledge of laboratory procedures, an ability to lift 30 lbs, physical stamina, and a knowledge of appropriate animal handling techniques preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

This is an entry level position and on the job training is provided. The ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions; the ability to keep accurate records; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required.

A general knowledge of laboratory procedures, equipment and terminology; the ability to operate and care for laboratory equipment; and a knowledge of appropriate specimen handling techniques preferred.

Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferences

A background in animal work, an ability to lift 30 lbs, and physical stamina to work 8-hour shifts on a cement floor. They must be available to work Saturday and Sunday mornings from 8:30-12:30.
