Job Summary

The Sustainability Office seeks a Farmers Market Student Manager & Gardens Assistant for the fall semester. The Farmers Market connects local food producers and community artisans to campus by hosting an on-campus market each fall. The market is one of the most visible and well-attended programs by the Sustainability Office, whose mission is to integrate sustainability as a core principle throughout all operations, research, disciplines, and curriculum at the University of Utah.

The student employee will assist staff with vendor management, market set up and tear down, grant management, and other programs that make the U of U Farmers Market a go-to destination for the campus community. In addition, the employee will work in the Edible Campus Gardens, a program of the Sustainability Office. At the garden, the employee will assist with planting, harvesting, planning, weeding, and other responsibilities as assigned by the garden manager.

All internships are contingent upon funding availability.

Responsibilities

The Farmers Market Student Manager & Gardens Assistant will assist in:

•Coordinating vendor management with staff market managers;

•Connecting with vendors on weekly basis to answer questions and provide updates;

•Tracking vendor attendance and other market metrics;

•Providing customer service to market attendees and vendors;

•Assisting in the creation of content for articles and social media posts;

•Managing Market Manager’s booth;

•And assisting in the Edible Campus Gardens.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be a University of Utah full-time student who is available to work Thursdays.

Internship is open to all majors. Ideal candidates will demonstrate strong verbal communication skills, as well as organizational abilities. Passion for healthy eating and food access.

Preferences

Event management experience; Spanish-language proficiency.
