The Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Utah and the VA Salt Lake City Health Care System ( VASLCHCS ) are recruiting a women’s health research clinician investigator. Qualified applicants will be at the Associate or Full Professor level and will receive a faculty appointment at the University of Utah commensurate with prior experience. Research leadership opportunities are available. Candidates must possess an MD degree or PhD with post-doctoral research training, such as a clinical research-focused fellowship or equivalent. The qualified applicant will demonstrate a successful track record of research and mentoring in women’s health and health services research in any of the following areas: health care quality, access, clinical outcomes, risk communications and medical decision making, informatics or translation science and implementation. Start-up funding to establish the investigator at the University of Utah and at the VASLCHCS is available for salary and program support during the initial years of the appointment to ensure sufficient protected research time to allow the establishment of an independent women’s health research program at VASLCHCS in conjunction with the University of Utah (U of U Health).

The University of Utah has numerous, robust resources that are available for research collaboration outside of the Division of General Internal Medicine. These include the Department of Population Health Science, the other Divisions of the Department of Internal Medicine, the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the Veterans Affairs Hospital. We also strongly encourage interdisciplinary collaboration with the Colleges of Nursing, Health, and Pharmacy. The University has a robust, multi-faceted research program in women’s health and has been an institutional leader in quality-improvement and value-driven outcomes projects. Candidates should be interested in building on the strengths of the existing Departments and Divisions and contributing to the University and VA Research Portfolios.

The VASLCHCS research environment includes a Health Services Research Center for Innovation ( COIN ) and the VA Informatics and Computing Infrastructure ( VINCI ). COIN Investigators conduct state-of-the art research applying informatics techniques in many clinical areas. VINCI improves researchers’ access to VA and DoD data to improve Veteran diagnosis, treatment and health care as well as quality of life. The VASLCHCS 121-bed tertiary care hospital facility provides women’s health care, primary care, and long-term care in areas of medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, and geriatrics.
