Job Summary

Conducts advanced statistical analyses of qualitative and quantitative data and interprets results; participates in study design; writes research proposals, grants and manuscripts; and, works to broaden research within the associated program or department.

The office of Enrollment Research and Analytics serves as a centralized resource within the office of the Senior Associate Vice Provost for Enrollment Management. Reporting to the Director of Enrollment Research and Analytics, the Enrollment Research Analyst is responsible for compiling, validating, analyzing, and reporting on data in support of the missions of the University of Utah and the division of Enrollment Management. For Enrollment Management, this mission includes recruiting a diverse and academically prepared group of students and facilitating their access to the University of Utah. The office uses a combination of data analysis tools and platforms including SQL and R. An interest in developing these and other skills and a perspective on future directions to take the office are desired.

Responsibilities

1.Data assembly and Validation:

Identify sources of institutional data in PeopleSoft and/or other systems. Combine relevant data from various sources into compact data sets more useful for summarizing, analyzing, and reporting.

Validate summary data with data owners and other users reporting on the data across campus. Map overlap between Enrollment Management data sets and corresponding data sets across campus and in external reports. Document sources of discrepancy.

2.Data analysis and reporting:

Establish historic trends in recurring sources of data (e.g., admissions funnel information, enrollment, etc.) Contribute to discussions on how best to operationalize questions such that they can be answered or contextualized using available data. Produce and maintain analytics and reports in support of operational functions across the division. Contribute to the representation of Enrollment Management data and insights within the divisions and across campus.

3.Competitive/market analysis and environmental scans:

Enrich institutional data sets with available national and other competitor data sets. Contribute to the determination of market share and market expansion.

4.Survey development and administration:

Contribute to the design, maintenance, administration, and analysis of relevant Enrollment Management data sets; including the yearly Survey of Admitted students. Contribute to the collection and analysis of qualitative data from stakeholders, including prospective students, parents of prospective students and Enrollment Management staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalency; plus four years related research experience, and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills also required.

A Master’s degree in a related field is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity or experience working with relational data bases.

Familiarity or experience handling and reporting on confidential data, especially FERPA protected student data.

2-3 years of experience working in higher education.
