The Department of Chemistry seeks an engineer with the ability to provide specialized electronic equipment for those doing research by designing, fabricating, troubleshooting, and maintaining electronic research equipment.
1.Support of a variety of research projects through design, fabrication, repair, and maintenance of instrumentation
2.Consult with researchers to define and analyze problems and solutions for research projects and equipment
4.Provide an effective maintenance facility for electronic equipment, including ordering supplies and equipment needed in the fabrication and maintenance of scientific instrumentation
5.Keep current with commercially available instruments to evaluate their potential use in research
6. Willingness and ability to teach electronics principles and practice to students in the physical sciences
7. Willingness to take on a variety of tasks, some of which are outside of traditional engineering roles
Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering, or a related field, or equivalency; and a commitment to provide excellent customer service required. Experience in research and development highly desirable.
The following experience and abilities are sought:
-Analog, digital and mixed signal design from DC to 300 MHz, including power supplies, Op-Amp circuits, RF power, noise reduction techniques, and transducer selection
-Troubleshooting and repair for above listed types of circuitry
-Construction and documentation experience is important in this position.
-LabView programming experience for control and data acquisition is useful but not essential.
