The Center for Child Care and Family Resources performs a vital role at the University of Utah, by providing information and support to for students, faculty, staff and early childhood practitioners. UKids – Child Care Programs is a family of three child care programs providing child care for University students, faculty and staff. We are experiencing unprecedented growth which provides for position available at all the UKids programs. Come join our team!
1. Develop lesson plans to stimulate and develop mental progresses as well as provide a well-rounded day of activity for pre-school children. UseDAPguidance techniques, Creative Curriculum Developmental Objectives, provide appropriate activities.
2. Provide intentional daily experiences in accordance to the Creative Curriculum Developmental Objectives, based on the children’s developmental needs and interests.
3. Will be responsible for the Teaching StrategiesGOLDassessment tool and the assessments for the children in their classroom.
4. Communicate effectively with professionals, parents and children.
5. Extinguishes, or lessens inappropriate behavior and redirects children to appropriate actions by applying Positive Child Guidance techniques to help children learn to manage their own behavior in a Positive manner. Models correct techniques for teaching assistants.
6. Teaches and leads children in music and movement to help them develop memory, verbal skills and a love for music.
7. Assists children with physical necessities, toileting/diapering, medical emergencies, etc. to give proper care and, where appropriate, facilitate development.
8. Interacts with parents and/or guardians to discuss concerns, day-to-day problems, suggestions, etc. to alleviate concerns and maintain a harmonious relationship.
9. Keep accurate records of client’s program usage.
10. Maintains a healthy and safe environment for children by sanitizing materials daily, and operating within State Licensing Guidelines.
11. Promotes leadership skills within a classroom team and oversees classroom assistants to interpret behaviors, and ensure they are working appropriately with children.
12. Demonstrate the ability to work independently, but show a willingness to take direction from the supervisor

The Early Childhood Infant/Toddler Teacher has the authority to develop all lesson plans and curriculum taught in the class, assess problem behaviors, and emotional functioning of children, and discuss these matters with the parents/guardians. He/she also assesses the degree of illness, or injury and decides the proper course of action, i.e. a child with asthma who might have an unusually strong attack, etc. The Early Childhood Teacher also has the authority to oversee Classroom Assistants and intervene to ensure they interact with appropriate child guidance techniques. Any suspect of child abuse, or neglect are reported to the Supervisor.
Bachelor’s degree in Child and Family Development, Early Childhood Development, or equivalency; one year of experience; currentCPRcertification; a current Food Handler’s Permit; and effective interpersonal skills. Twenty hours of continuing education each year in early childhood education, and a commitment to provide excellent customer service are also required.

• Must be at least 18 years old
• Exhibits physical stamina necessary for daily interaction with very young children
• Must be able to lift small children (10-50 lbs.)
• Must be able to carry small children in arms for short distances
• Must meet physical characteristics (with or without the use of aids): including fine motor skills
o Sufficient vision to read printed material
o Sufficient hearing to hear normal and telephone conversation
o Ability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation
• Must be able to move about on hands and knees and sit on the floor with children
• Must demonstrate effective communication with professionals, parents and children
• Must demonstrate an ability to work independently but show a willingness to take direction from the supervisor
• Must be warm, energetic and enjoy working with young children (6 weeks to 5 years)
• Must pass a Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) background check
• Must be willing to obtain a food handlers permit and first aid/CPRtraining
• Demonstrated skills in multi-age programming for children and families
• Demonstrated skills in staff orientation, training and evaluation
• Demonstrated skills in Microsoft Office and management software
For this position, previous child care experience and/or education in Early Childhood is preferred. Candidate must demonstrate an interest in learning about child development and guidance. Demonstrated human relation and effective human relations skills are also required.
