Job Summary

Directs all development activities involved with the solicitation of donations from individuals, corporations, foundations and government agencies on behalf of the School of Music ( SOM ), in coordination with the College of Fine Arts ( CFA ). This includes directing and coordinating efforts to solicit and secure major gifts, the annual giving program, planned giving, capital campaign gifts and the annual gala.


  • Build and manage a portfolio, with a focus on major gifts; qualifying, cultivating and stewarding prospects to fund the needs for the SOM
  • Plan strategies and goals to increase fundraising effectiveness including; corporate gift giving, capital campaigns, planned giving, annual giving, major gifts, grant acquisitions, special events and telemarketing
  • Organize and direct various boards and committees within the college/department, in conjunction with the Development Specialist, including the SOM Advisory Board, the Camerata Gala committee, etc.
  • Plan, implement and manage all aspects of the Camerata Gala, in conjunction with the Development Specialist, including dinner for 200+ guests, performance for 500+ guests and post-dessert reception; work with the Gala committee as well as SOM faculty, staff and students
  • Meet weekly with the SOM Director and the CFA Sr. Director of Advancement to coordinate all SOM / CFA fundraising efforts
  • Ensure appropriate and timely acknowledgement and recognition of donors, including thank you letters, endowment and grant reporting, and appropriate recognition in annual donor lists
  • Manage the administrative functions of Unite, adhere to the University’s prospect management standards to track donor relationships and file contact reports and maintaining donor records
  • Work with the SOM to adhere to the departmental budget. May monitor the gift accounts including endowed and expendable funds to ensure that they are being managed in accordance with the donor’s gift agreements
  • Assist in organizing and implementing fundraising campaigns and projects with the CFA Development team
  • Work collaboratively with the CFA /Dean’s office and the U’s Central Advancement team by attending team meeting
  • Explore and create collaborative partnerships and cross promotional opportunities with other CFA Academic units, cultural organizations, other U departments, modeling the One U mission
  • Ensure fundraising efforts are donor centric, including continuing education in fundraising best practices, participate in professional fundraising organizations

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communication, Public Relations, English, or a related field, or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). Five years experience in fundraising, marketing, sales, business, public relations, annual, corporate or foundation giving which includes two years of budgeting and supervisory experience. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. Experience in grant or proposal writing, public speaking, a background working with print and/or electronic media, an understanding of university fundraising practices and personnel management is preferred.
