As a Project Manager, or PM, you will be responsible for leading a team of professionals in developing and completing a wide variety of interesting projects that will improve the physical facilities and campus infrastructure in support of our core operations. Your expertise will help promote efficiency and sustainability in mechanical and electrical systems projects that support our growing campus. The duties include monitoring and reporting on project schedules, budgets and scope. You will also communicate with customers, campus and community groups, facilities management leadership, facility operations, university administration, and other stakeholders regarding project status and impacts.

Responsibilities

Manages and coordinates the planning, design, and construction of capital facilities projects; Acts as a liaison between customers, departments, agencies, other organizations, professional service providers, and contractors; Coordinates with and/or supervises professional services consultants in the performance of contracted responsibilities; Instructs, guides, and counsels clients regarding the processes of project development, procurement of services, and all other aspects of project implementation; Assures that clients needs are addressed and plans are accomplished within the constraints of policies, procedures and business practices of the University and the State of Utah; Reviews construction proposals, contracts and plans, determines project requirements, oversees compliance with requirements, and recommends corrections of deficiencies and approves all changes; Negotiates contracts and proposals on behalf of the customer and the University; Monitors and manages project budgets and schedules to assure completion of critical tasks needed to meet client timing objectives; Approves pay requests for consultants, vendors, and contractors for completed work; Compiles information for submission to the Board of Trustees, DFCM , and the State Building Board for review, approval, and funding; Assists with other department needs as requested.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, a related field, or equivalency; AND 5-7 years of related experience; Familiarity with State and national building codes and experience working on capital development project, and; Demonstrated human relation and effective written and verbal communication skills are required.

Current licensure with the State of Utah as an Architect or Engineer is preferred.

Preferences

The exceptional candidate will possess the following:

· Experience working with central plant heating and cooling systems.

· Utah state professional licensure in mechanical or electrical engineering

· Management experience in planning, design, construction and / or management of large projects and facilities.

· Proven leadership skills that include work with complex organizations and large projects.

· Clear communicator with a strong grasp of political and organizational dynamics.

· Financial skills to prepare, monitor, and manage complex detailed project budgets, evaluate independent cost estimates, and review and approve payment requests.

· Working knowledge of current project and construction costs and experience with industry standard cost estimating.
