The Information Security Office (ISO) seeks a data security analyst to participate in the continual efforts in the areas of governance, risk, and compliance in order to improve the information security capabilities of the University of Utah and University Health Care.ISOcontinuously strives for daily operational excellence to ensure the confidentiality, availability, and integrity of University of Utah information technology systems and data through the implementation of appropriate security resources and best practices. TheISOteam works in partnership with the University, as well as external entities, to help ensure that the University of Utah is exposed only to acceptable risks within its educational, research, patient care, and community outreach missions.
Located in Salt Lake City, in the foothills of the Wasatch Mountains, the University of Utah is the flagship institution of the State of Utah’s system of higher education and a member of thePAC-12 Conference. Salt Lake City combines the amenities of a major metropolitan area of more than one million people with the friendliness and ease of living of a small, Western city. Seven major ski resorts are within an hour’s drive from campus, and opportunities to pursue activities from biking to hiking to fishing abound. Salt Lake is also home to the Utah Symphony and Opera, Ballet West, several professional sports teams, and a wide range of other cultural and recreational activities.
Working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, policies, rules, and procedures published on the University of Utah’s regulations website, and any subsequent policies, rules, and procedures that support the University of Utah’s information security program. Familiarity with compliance standards including the information security requirements associated withHIPAA/HITECH,FISMA,GDPR,PCIandFERPA. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks in accordance with departmental competencies/behaviors. Performs other duties as assigned. Works under general supervision. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.
The successful candidate will work in collaboration with senior risk analysts to conduct risk assessments of information technology assets and generate reports that are shared with university leaders and maintained to meet compliance objectives. Other duties include assisting with the security training and awareness program.

Requires a bachelor’s degree in area of specialty or equivalency and 0-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
Demonstrated ability to interact with all levels of personnel within an organization.
Strong written and verbal communications skills.

- A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or equivalent experience in related fields.
- One or more information security or technology risk management certifications (CISSP,CISA,CRISC,CISM, etc.)
- Experience developing and implementing information security policy and procedures
- Experience with information security in a higher-education or healthcare environment
- Experience assessing and documenting the design of technology controls to effectively mitigate risk
