Job Summary

Lead the talented team of developers, researchers and clinicians in the University of Utah Division of Epidemiology to build application systems in an agile/scrum environment. Architect for tenant analytic environments within the VA Corporate Data Warehouse infrastructure. Responsible for stage and data mart modeling, ETL patterns and daily load operations as well as reporting and cube implementations. Previous leadership and/or management strongly preferred.

Supports prototype data engineering projects through tuning and augmentation. Responsible for reliability engineering of growing services and working new elements into a unified model. Supporting ongoing data quality efforts through metadata management and ETL automation. Responsible for the integration and adoption of new features in defined software toolkits.

Must be a proficient data engineer familiar with Microsoft Business Intelligence stack. Experience in TSQL and SSIS required with SSRS , SSAS and Power BI strongly preferred.

Familiar with Kimball Data Warehouse concepts in both modeling and ETL processing.

Previous experience within the VA data system and/or with healthcare data strongly preferred.

Opportunity for advancement to lead developer depending upon experience and performance. Previous technical stakeholder management strongly preferred.

This position is considered Category IIA : Not required on campus and has the ability to telework remotely for the duration of the University of Utah’s response to COVID -19. An employee hired into this role will be responsible for providing space, telephone, printing, networking and/or internet capabilities at the telecommute location and agree to the terms of the University of Utah campus and Health Academics COVID -19 Telecommuting Agreement.


Must be able to independently perform all activities with minimal oversight and high degree of quality.

•All daily data operations (Data Refresh SLA )

•Data quality issues

•Storage and compute resource management

•Merge and Deploy operations

•Database performance for ETL and Reports

Familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Leads and directs the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department.
