Job Summary

The College of Science (COS) at the University of Utah invites applications for a Facilities Coordinator position associated with the Gary and Ann Crocker Science Center (CSC). TheCSCis a new integrated science research and education facility that offers state of the art research and education laboratories, classrooms, and student support spaces. The Facilities Coordinator will work with a team of dedicated staff including theCSCBuilding Operations Manager, theCSCEducational Laboratories Manager, and additional personnel to create and sustain a productive and safe education and research environment. The Facilities Coordinator will report to theCSCBuilding Operations Manager.


●Maintain and/or coordinate repair of building-supplied equipment (e.g., autoclaves, glass washers, glass dryers, centrifuges, cold rooms,UPSunits, etc.).

●Assist in the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and equipment.

●Maintain a database for capital and non-capital equipment.

●Assist building occupants and UofU facilities personnel in the operation and troubleshooting of buildingHVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, security, and communications systems.

●Manage, maintain, and train users on building-owned audio-visual systems.

●Maintain electronic entry access database.

●Coordinate with UofU facilities to develop preventative maintenance programs and strategies for building mechanical systems and equipment.

●Develop and manage systems to monitor, order, receive, and bill for gas supply (N2 & CO2) usage.

●Assist in the coordination of building and laboratory renovation and construction projects.

●Assist in the development of and oversee protocols for safety evacuation and overall building safety.

●Serve as a core member of the facility safety committee, which includes Educational Laboratory Manager, Building Operations Manager, and research stakeholders.

●Serve as a liaison betweenCSCand the office of Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalency required (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). Three years directly related experience. Commitment to provide excellent customer service, planning and analytical skills required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communications skills also required. Technical expertise in related area may be required in some areas.

Experience must include facilities management knowledge in preventative maintenance,HVACsystems and operations, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing, interior design, safety coordination, and demonstrated knowledge of custodial activities.

Budgeting and purchasing experience.

Experience with supply system management and a commitment to provide excellent customer service.
