Job Summary

The Department of Education, Culture and Society, in the College of Education has an opening for an individual seeking career growth and opportunity. This position has responsibilities that include both working directly with graduate students, keeping student academic records and working with faculty within the Department and under the direction of the Department Chair.

Responsibilities

1. Initiates and follows through on the entire process associated with specific academic and student programs.

2. Conveys course and program information to students; assists students in selecting appropriate classes; may review student records for graduation requirement approval. Advising prospective students, master’s students, and first-year doctoral students. Post-admission advising of doctoral students is the responsibility of the faculty advisor and not a responsibility of this position.

3. Processes resident and student applications including communication, setting up interviews, arranging faculty contacts, managing all incoming supporting documents, and interfacing with the National Residency Matching Program.

4. Prepares records and maintains files on all activities relating to student and academic programs and resolves problems within the realm of applied authority.

5. Assist in coordinating student recruitment efforts.

6. Maintains student and alumni database.

7. Creation and distribution of department newsletter.

8. Compile student and faculty evaluation reports on a monthly and annual basis.

9. May perform clerical support, as needed, including basic office duties, collecting and distributing mail, answering phone calls, scheduling appointments, participating in faculty and departmental meetings as needed.

10. Plans department events related to students and faculty, distribute itineraries, and coordinates catered events.

Minimum Qualifications

Four years of administrative and/or secretarial experience, preferably in an academic setting, or equivalency; the ability to work independently and pay close attention to detail; demonstrated human relations, communication and organizational skills; and a commitment to provide excellent customer service required. Accounting skills may also be required by some departments.
