This position reports to Moran’s Associate Director of Communications and Public Relations and works with External Relations development and marketing team members to execute a variety of well-written, engaging printed materials and publications, website articles, emails, and presentations. The ideal candidate will be a talented writer with the ability to meet tight deadlines, make complex research understandable for a general audience, and pay special attention to detail and accuracy. This position must be highly organized, serving as a conduit for effectively communicating our vision to consultant designers, videographers, and photographers and ensuring timely project completion.
Serve as the point person ensuring on-time, high-quality execution of printed materials including:
•FOCUSAnnual Report 1x per year
•ClinicalFOCUS1x per year
•EducationFOCUS1x per year
•PatientFOCUS1x per year
•Advisory Council/Chairman’s Report 2x per year
•Illuminations Submissions 2x per year
•Lions Eye Bank Newsletter Submissions 4x per year
•Advisory Council Updates 12x per year
•Various documents, manuals, newsletters, brochures, magazine articles, profiles, press releases, news articles, research material, and other articles as needed
•Interview patients, faculty, staff, community members, etc. to write stories and articles for both the web, up to four articles per month, and print publications
•Generate and track story ideas and developments for use in publications and online
•Work with other internal departments to ensure accurate representation of research, education, and clinical care in all stories
•Edit copy as assigned for content, style, and accuracy
Coordinate with the associate director, team members, Moran staff and faculty, University of Utah webmaster, andMBMstaff to help gather, compile, write, edit, and update content and photographs for:
•Existing and new clinical and research faculty pages
•Moran news pages
•Patient care information
•Development and Outreach pages
•Other clinical or department page content as assigned
•Prioritize and manage projects, content ideas, outlines, and timelines.
•Coordinate with team members regarding project results, responsibilities, ideas, writing, design, editing, timeline, and mailing
•Coordinate with photographers, videographers, graphic designers, and public relations to ensure on-time, high-quality deliverables
•Contribute as an External Relations team member by attending meetings and supporting and collaborating with communications, public relations, marketing, outreach, and development colleagues
•Attend conferences and meetings as suggested by or approved by the associate director
•Work with team members to ensure that print and electronic communication is consistent with an integrated marketing communications branding model in design, style, and brand
•Carry out special projects which may be assigned by the External Relations director at any time, including compiling and writing information for donor letters, press releases, press kits, bios, Moran facts, U of U Public Relations, and faculty ghost writing
•Readily execute miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned by the associate director or External Relations director
Bachelor’s degree in area of specialty and 4-6 years of experience in the field or in a related area, or equivalency is required.
Prior experience in producing publications, managing website content through aCMS, and using spreadsheets to manipulate data is desired.
