This position is responsible for facilitating, coordinating, and ensuring the evaluation, training and education of the clinical staff. It may be assigned by the Clinical Staff Education department (CSE) to one or more clinical departments or areas, and is specifically responsible for assessing and addressing educational needs in the assigned area(s), in collaboration with department and service line leadership. This includes facilitating, coordinating, and ensuring the assessment and maintenance of accurate, timely staff education and training records and teaching clinical lessons, in-services, and various classes and courses. They attend to their own continuing education and clinical competencies, and act as a catalyst for change, adapting to change in a positive and professional manner.
This position may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to State Law.
Performs in teacher, coach, preceptor, planner, evaluator, organizer, and clinician roles.
Develops and administers clinical staff orientation for defined areas and provides ongoing support as a mentor for newly hired staff.
Continually assesses educational needs in the assigned areas(s); evaluates effectiveness and outcomes of education programs.
Provides nursing staff with support in their role as patient and family educators.
Maintains clinical skills and presence when assigned to clinical departments or areas by working alongside students, orientees, preceptors, charge nurses and staff.
Meets or exceeds the training, education, and competency requirements of the assigned clinical department(s); in agreement with department and CSE managers, may be required to work a specified number of shifts in clinical staff nurse role.
Takes an active role as lead preceptor for the assigned area(s). Assesses cognitive, psychomotor and affective skills, knowledge, experience, and competency of clinical staff. Provides coaching, mentoring, and support for preceptors.
In collaboration with CSE and department, unit, and/or service line leadership, creates and regularly updates department education plans, to include listing staff education and training requirements and recommendations for orientation, annual updates, changes to practice, just-in-time training, remediation, and documentation.
Maintains and models clinical and professional expertise by being conversant with current literature and practice.
Develops productive and collegial relationships with other clinicians, educators and leadership.
Participates in Clinical Education Committee including facilitating and communicating all necessary information to staff, managers, and directors in defined areas of responsibility. Takes an active role in organization-wide education and outreach programs.
Acts as liaison between Clinical Staff Education Department and others, facilitating staff access to participation in CSE programs and courses.
Collaborates with CSE Staff Development Educators to facilitate and coordinate clinical placements and educational experiences of students.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.
Demonstrated clinical competence in defined areas or defined clinical nursing specialty.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to speak effectively before groups and/or teach classes.
Demonstrated proficiency in relevant software applications.
Ability to teach and support the instruction of the organization’s electronic health records.
Ability to provide care appropriate to the population served.
Typical work hours fall between 7 am and 6 pm, however incumbent may be required to work irregular hours or shifts including nights and weekends to accommodate specific learner or project schedules.
Two years full time experience as an RN.
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or Education or currently enrolled in BSN program.
Completion of or enrollment in graduate-level program in nursing, education, or other approved related field within 24 months of hire date.
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact if switching residency to State of Utah. If not changing state of practice to Utah, current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in a state covered by the Interstate Compact.
Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card through American Heart Association or obtain within one month of hire.

Master’s degree in nursing, education or related field.
Nursing experience in acute care, critical care, or emergency care, or other specific are of accountability.
Nursing experience in a specialty related to a specific need or opening.
Trainer certification or equivalency preferred at hire or obtain within one year of hire.
AANC Nursing Professional Development Certification obtained after two years in position.
AHA provider and/or instructor certification in BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP.
