Job Summary

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Utah School of Medicine is seeking a Business Data Analyst to function as a key member of the ambulatory operations team responsible for pediatric subspecialty clinical services. Responsible for interpreting results using a variety of techniques, ranging from simple data aggregation via statistical analysis to complex data mining; designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining business solutions. Works directly with the Clinical Enterprise leadership team, Division chiefs and administrators, and Department leadership identify analytical requirements, efficiencies, and areas for potential improvement.

The ambulatory group consists of 11 pediatric subspecialty divisions and service lines that practice primarily at Primary Children’s Eccles Outpatient building, Primary Children’s Riverton, Primary Children’s Layton, and other satellite clinics. This position primarily works at our Pediatric Patient Contact Center in Salt Lake City at 250 Tower, and also at the Primary Children’s Eccles Outpatient building.

Essential Functions

  • Analyzes and compiles existing Business Intelligence (BI) reports into consumable dashboards
  • Ensures accuracy of data, analyzes conflicting data, and verifies/collects missing information
  • Works with analyst team to request necessary changes to tableau reports
  • Facilitates meaningful discussion around self-produced dashboards regarding but not limited to:

  • New patient access

  • Slot utilization
  • Provider utilization
  • No-show rates
  • Load-leveling opportunities (new/return, secondary/tertiary/quaternary resource deployment, etc.)

  • Effectively liaises with stakeholders (physicians, administrators, templaters, etc.) to accomplish Division and Department goals

  • Utilizes computer programs such as tableau and excel to analyze data; determines trends and changes in data
  • Makes recommendations using data to promote optimal deployment of templates in support of Departmental and Divisional goals

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor’s degree in related area (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). Two to four years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
