Job Summary

The Pediatric Critical Care Division at the University of Utah School of Medicine has an immediate opening for a Biostatistician II to join the Data Coordinating Center ( DCC ). The DCC provides data management, project management and statistical support for multicenter, investigator-initiated and industry clinical research studies of various diseases and medical fields, including Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, Pediatric Emergency Care Medicine, Cardiology, Pediatric Colorectal, Pediatric Multiple Sclerosis, Concussion, Hydrocephalus, Neuromyelitis Optica and Scleroderma. This is an exciting opportunity to provide statistical support for DCC projects.

Responsibilities

This position will provide statistical support for clinical research studies within the Division of Critical Care, Department of Pediatrics of the University of Utah School of Medicine. Specifically, the primary areas of responsibility will be as follows:

  1. Creates analysis datasets and associated dataset specifications; reviews data for discrepancies and works with the study team to resolve discrepancies. (25%)
  2. Prepares and presents interim and final study results (e.g., tables, figures and reports), interprets results, and describes the statistical analysis methods used. (15%)
  3. Works collaboratively with study team to support project needs and provide statistical perspective during all project stages (planning, enrollment, and post enrollment). This includes reviewing study materials prepared by other team members. (10%)
  4. With direction from supervising statistician, coordinates study statistical team to support project needs. This includes completing quality assurance procedures, ensuring statistical documentation is current, and archiving materials for completed deliverables. (10%)
  5. In consultation with supervising statistician, successfully negotiates timelines and manages competing deadlines. (5%)
  6. Recognizes potential areas of concern related to study design, statistical, or data issues. Works to understand issues, identifies potential solutions, and consults with supervising or faculty statistician. (5%)
  7. Actively expands own knowledge and understanding of statistical methods and programming. (5%)
  8. Conforms to statistical and shared data coordinating center working guidelines and standard operating procedures. (5%)
  9. With direction from supervising or faculty statistician, assists in the preparation of abstracts, presentations and manuscripts; includes drafting analysis plans. (15%)
  10. With direction from supervising or faculty statistician, communicates with study investigators and other clinicians regarding statistical issues, analysis planning, study results, and the interpretation of study results. (5%)

Minimum Qualifications

This position requires a solid knowledge of standard statistical analysis procedures with a minimum of an MS degree in statistics, biostatistics, or a related field, and demonstrated knowledge of at least one statistical programming language such as SAS or R. Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). An ability to work on several projects simultaneously and manage deadlines, and excellent communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain statistical techniques and present data results.

Preferences

Candidates with clinical or pharmaceutical research experience will be given preference. Advanced data and statistical analysis programming skills using SAS are an asset.
