Division of Public Health, Department of Family and Preventive Medicine

The University of Utah’s Division of Public Health within the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine invites applications and nominations for the position of Division Chief. This tenure track appointment offers a unique opportunity for a highly qualified individual to lead a division with a significant global presence in research and education. We seek an experienced national leader who values a collaborative working environment and is committed to improving public health through high-quality education, impactful research and genuine engagement with the communities we serve. Faculty rank and salary level is competitive and commensurate with experience.

The Division of Public Health has experienced significant growth over the last 5 years and now consists of 20 core faculty serving approximately 200 graduate students. We offer theMPH,MSPH, Master of Science in Biostatistics, and PhD degrees at the Salt Lake City campus. The fullMPHcurriculum is also offered at the University of Utah Incheon Global Campus in South Korea and, starting in fall 2019, in Ghana at the Ensign College of Public Health. The division has been fully accredited by the Council on Education in Public Health since 1978, and has an expanding and diverse research portfolio with a strong and increasing track-record of successful federal funding.

The Division of Public Health is situated in the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine in the University of Utah’s School of Medicine. The Department was established in 1970 to address current and emerging health care needs by educating health care professionals, conducting basic and applied research, and implementing state-of-the-art clinical and community-based health services. Since then, the Department has grown into a booming entity that houses the Divisions of Family Medicine, Physician Assistant Studies, Public Health, and Occupational and Environmental Health. As an ever growing and developing department, our goal is to expand the possibilities of health by serving the communities we work with in a variety of capacities. The Department has a strong record ofNIHfunding, and is ranked 4th among departments of Family and Preventive Medicine by the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research. The majority of externally funded researchers within the Department are housed within the Division of Public Health.

Faculty in the Division of Public Health have access to unique opportunities for research collaboration and support, with teams of highly successful researchers in the department as well as in the University of Utah Health Sciences, including the Rocky Mountain Center for Occupational and Environmental Health, Huntsman Cancer Institute, the Salt Lake City Veterans Affairs Center of Innovation, the Center for Excellence in Women’s Health, the Utah Genome Project/Precision Medicine, Cardiovascular Research Center, the Diabetes Metabolism Research Center, and the Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences. Additional collaborative opportunities are available across the University of Utah in areas such as psychology, sociology, business, social work, engineering, anthropology, and economics.

Desired Qualifications (In no particular order):

•Significant experience leading a public health or related academic unit.

•Ability to develop a vision for Global Public Health.

•Understanding and evidence of ability to build and develop collaborative relationships within and beyond the University.

•Skills to effectively develop and maintain donor relationships.

•Proven record of federally and/or foundation funded research and strong record of publications.

•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

•Ability to develop and maintain effective interdisciplinary educational programs and research teams.

•Experience mentoring junior faculty and organizing mentoring programs.
