Governor Scott M. Matheson Endowed Chair in Health Care Studies

Fostering Collaboration in Research and Education

As a part of an interdisciplinary Transformative Excellence Program in Health Policy and Economics, the University of Utah is seeking applicants for a tenured endowed chair position in the Governor Scott M. Matheson Center for Health Care Studies. Candidates should have extensive research, teaching and service related to health care policy, management, and economics. The scholar filling the chair is expected to contribute and to strengthen the consortium of scholars from across the university who are committed to understanding and to transforming health care finance and delivery in an era of evolving demographic, technological and regulatory environment.

The mission of the endowed chair and center is facilitating faculty research development and broadening community connections in the understanding of health care policy, management, and economics. A second focus is to ensure that the center is positioned organizationally to act as a stimulus for interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary initiatives across the University of Utah. This includes collaboration with existing educational programs such as the Master of Healthcare Administration in the School of Business, Masters of Policy Administration in the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences, PhD programs in Political Science, Population Health Science, and Economics.

Matheson Center

The Center seeks opportunities to build a mutual understanding of health care delivery from the perspective of academic researchers, providers, policy makers and patients and the broader community. Special attention is given to building links among the health sciences, policy, economics, and other disciplines to support these basic purposes.

Qualifications

All candidates should have a Ph.D. or equivalent, an excellent and sustained record of research, teaching interests in the area, and experience working across disciplines commensurate with their career stage. The search committee will place a high value on a demonstrated ability to generate extramural funding.
