Job Summary

University of Utah Planning, Design & Construction (PDC) seeks a customer and results oriented individual to assist in the leadership and coordination of campus planning efforts. This leader will manage a team of planners, engage with all levels ofPDCand key partners throughout the University, and oversee ongoing campus planning efforts.


1.Reports to the Chief Design and Construction Officer

2.Assists in the leadership and direction of Campus Planning staff withinPDC

3.Coordinates with Campus Space Management and other University departments involved in and/or invested in campus planning

4.Communicates withPDCstaff and other campus personnel to keep them informed of work progress and activities, and to coordinate studies and projects.

5.Leads the development of the campus strategic plan, and ongoing updates to the campus master plan.

6.Coordinates the development and management of the campus capital plan.

7.Develops and maintains a comprehensive campus planning and review process for property, infrastructure, buildings and space.

8.Provides facilities program guidance during pre-design phase for capital projects. Leads in the Feasibility Study phase, and provides guidance throughout development of the design and through construction of Capital Projects.

9.Conducts campus planning studies and analyses related to site circulation,ADAaccess, bicycle path planning, buildings, departments, historic preservation guidelines, sustainability and other areas as requested.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, a related area, or equivalency required; plus six years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communication skills also required. Master’s degree in Business Administration or related area preferred. This position is not responsible for providing patient care. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.


American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) Certification; registered Architect;LEEDAP.

Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, a related area, or equivalency; six years of progressively more responsible management experience in planning and design, knowledge of the principles and practices of campus planning in areas including strategic planning, transportation, land use suitability,ADA, and site analysis.

Demonstrated leadership skills, and the ability to communicate with members of the academic, scientific and healthcare communities.

Experience with institutional/academic building types and large scale construction programs

Knowledge of financial practices including life-cycle cost analysis. Well-developed organizational, analytical, oral and written communication and management skills.
