Tenure-Track Position for an Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Community Nutrition and Health Behavior

The Department of Nutrition and Integrative Physiology at the University of Utah is recruiting a Tenure Track faculty member at the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor rank. The successful candidate will have an outstanding record of research productivity on the underlying health behaviors and systems that influence or prevent chronic diseases, with a focus on the influence of nutrition on diabetes and obesity. Areas of interest include implementation science, behavioral interventions, and health services research. Applicants with PhDs in a diverse array of disciplines (e.g., Nutrition, Psychology, Public Health, Nursing, etc.) will be considered. Candidates with Registered Dietitian Nutritionist credential preferred.

The successful candidate will develop an independent, extramurally funded research program and train and mentor graduate students. The applicant will also assume an executive scientific leadership role in the University of Utah Center for Community Nutrition ( UUCCN ), which has robust community partnerships throughout Utah. UUCCN is part of the University’s Driving Out Diabetes Initiative ( DODI ), a strategic initiative to reduce the burden of diabetes and the associated medical comorbidities of obesity and heart disease through clinical, research, and community engagement programs. Examples of these programs include The Wellness Bus (, childhood and family nutrition programs (, and the National Diabetes Prevention Program ( ). Currently, UUCCN provides community nutrition and engagement programming in schools, homeless shelters, and other underserved communities. Candidates who can expand current community-based interventions, as well as develop new programming that is responsive to and resonant with the needs of underserved and at-risk populations are desired.

Furthermore, the successful candidate will maintain a primary appointment in the Department of Nutrition and Integrative Physiology while having membership in the Diabetes and Metabolism Research Center ( DMRC ) at University of Utah Health. The interdisciplinary DMRC strives to unify and enhance efforts of clinicians, researchers, and educators to catalyze innovative research relating to diabetes and metabolic health throughout Utah and the Intermountain West. The center comprises more than 100 faculty across multiple schools, colleges, and departments and supports researchers through the recruitment of research-intensive faculty, distribution of pilot grants, organization of symposia and seminars, and management of training grants. The successful applicant will also have access to outstanding research services (e.g., Utah Population Database, Center for Clinical & Translational Science, etc.), access to clinical data from the University of Utah Comprehensive Weight Management Program and Utah Diabetes and Endocrinology Center, and the ability to leverage resources from DODI .
