The Multi-disciplinary Design program within the University of Utah’s College of Architecture + Planning invites applications for an Assistant Professor position (tenure-track) in digital product and experience design. This appointment will reside in the School of Architecture and will be be a nine-month appointment (1.0FTE) to begin on July 1, 2019.

Multi-disciplinary Design at the University of Utah is a digital, physical and platform product design program. We are a unified front of academics, professionals and students redefining the design language as it evolves beneath and beyond us. Students in the program move through a series of experiences exposing them to high craft, grounded research, ethics, leadership skills and new technologies. The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate a focus in digital product exploration in relationship to physical/spatial and/or platform design. All scales of design, and impact will be considered. The definition of design incudes all design and creative disciplines (industrial, product, architecture, fine arts, graphic, etc.) Candidates are expected to teach studio, hold seminars in the area of their expertise, as well as conduct research and/or creative work within a R1 university setting.

Required qualifications:

-a terminal degree in Design or a related field (if the terminal degree is in another field, exposure to design is expected)

Preferred qualifications include:

-previous teaching and/or mentoring experience with examples

-peer-reviewed research and/or creative work

-awards for teaching and/or design
