The University of Utah School of Music Announces a Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Music Composition and Theory.
Responsibilities include: (1) Maintain a notable, visible professional career as composer that indicates continuing growth and national/international visibility; (2) teach undergraduate and graduate composition, and related courses in support of the needs of the School of Music; (3) teach undergraduate and graduate courses in music theory according to curricular needs and the candidate’s abilities/expertise (these potentially include graduate seminars in analysis and theory, as well as various undergraduate theory courses typically offered in art music curricula); (4) supervise undergraduate final projects, and graduate theses and dissertations; (5) recruit and advise undergraduate and graduate composition majors; (6) contribute to the coordination and advancement of the core music theory curriculum and the composition curriculum; (7) participate on committees, including doctoral committees; and (8) perform other appropriate college, university, and professional service. Required Qualifications: (1) Earned doctorate in composition (ABDcandidates may apply if they can, on request, provide clear documentation that their doctorate will be completed by July 1, 2019); (2) teaching experience in music theory at the college level; (3) excellent classroom keyboard skills; (4) recognition that music is a vital, changing and diverse practice.
