The University of Utah’s Department of Radiation Oncology seeks a dynamic individual to join a strong team environment in the Division of Medical Physics. The successful applicant will join an existing team of 9 medical physicists, 7 certified medical dosimetrists, 2 medical physics residents and 1 physicist assistant.

Commensurate with experience and skill set, appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank on either a Clinical or Tenure Line Track in the School of Medicine is anticipated.

The Department of Radiation Oncology occupies a spacious 30,000 square feet on the ground floor of the beautiful Huntsman Cancer Hospital. The Huntsman Cancer Institute is anNCIDesignated Comprehensive Cancer Center and a member of the prestigiousNCCNnetwork of cancer centers.


The successful faculty candidate will possess strong clinical skills along with research and teaching interests. Clinical duties will entail the customary support and QA responsibilities of a clinical medical physicist. These responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, multiple aspects of clinical support and QA related to linear accelerator calibration, stereotactic and image guidance process QA and brachytherapy (LDRandHDR) support. Our expectation is that the candidate will be a valuable member of our research team and will begin to participate immediately in academic projects. It is also expected that the candidate will be a valuable member of our teaching team and will share in responsibilities related to our physician residency program and ourCAMPEPaccredited medical physics residency program.


Qualified candidates will have a PhD degree in Medical Physics with Board Certification in Therapy Medical Physics from the American Board of Radiology or will be Board eligible.


Seven linear accelerators, including a new Varian Edge stereotactic machine with ExacTrac,OSMSand Calypso, along with 3 other True Beams, one with HDMLCand ExacTrac are in service. Additionally, a Siemens Artiste with in-room CT on Rails is also in operation. In addition to in-roomCTORcapability and kV Cone beam, the department also possesses Clarity real-time transperineal ultrasound guidance, Calypso BodyGPS, MV Cone beam, surface guidance viaOSMS, VisionRT and Varian Identify technology. A large-bore 16 slice GE Lightspeed RT with 4D capability and a new Siemens 64 slice large bore Confidence with Dual energy, 4D, iMAR and Iterative reconstruction are used for simulation within the department. ActiveHDRbrachytherapy (Elekta-Nucletron) and prostate seed implant programs are in operation. Varian Eclipse, BrainLab iPlan, and RaySearch external beam treatment planning systems are in use, along with Variseed for prostate seed implants, Nucletron Oncentra forHDRandIMPACRecord & Verify / ViewStation. Very activeIMRT,IMRS/stereotactic andSBRTprograms are in place.

Additionally, the University of Utah is home to the Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute (SCII) and the Department of Radiation Oncology shares active research ties with the institute in the areas of deformable image registration for 4D imaging and dose calculation.
