Job Summary

The College of Fine Arts ( CFA ) at the University of Utah is seeking an experienced financial professional for our vibrant and collaborative team. As the chief financial officer for the College of Fine Arts and campus Professional Arts Affiliates, the Assistant Dean for Finance & Operations reports and serves as a key strategic advisor to the Dean, serving on the Dean’s Cabinet and CFA Executive Committee. The Assistant Dean manages, plans, and organizes the College’s financial operations which include, but are not limited to, financial planning and forecasting, budgeting, data analysis, and administration.

The CFA seeks to foster an atmosphere of inclusion where the diversity of individuals and their perspectives are valued & respected.

Responsibilities

Duties and essential functions of this position include:

(1)identifying areas of funding needs, strategizing and developing methods of maximizing resources to address needs;

(2)developing the CFA annual budget proposal and presenting it with the Dean to the SVPAA budget advisory committee;

(3)strategizing, overseeing, and analyzing budget proposals for the Professional Arts Affiliates;

(4)collaborating with CFA and Affiliates’ leadership in developing short- and long-term strategic business direction and plans

(5)developing and directing CFA and academic units’ financial management systems for maximum effectiveness and efficiency;

(6)monitoring financial management and status of financial and business goals toward sustainability;

(7)facilitating business and financial synergy among CFA units, as well as between CFA and Affiliates, to optimize use of resources;

(8)identifying, responding to, and resolving any significant financial/operational issues that may emerge in the Dean’s Office, academic units, and Affiliates;

(9)overseeing CFA facilities and mediating any space planning, renovations, disruptions, deferred maintenance issues;

(10)serving on various related University and College committees.

The incumbent will support the University of Utah’s goals and mission and act as a catalyst among departments, faculty, staff, students, and external entities to ensure continuity and quality of financial administration efforts in the CFA .

Minimum Qualifications

•Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related area

•Eight years of progressively responsible financial management experience

•Demonstrated leadership, human relations, and effective communication skills; sound judgment and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information; analysis and problem-solving skills; capacity to handle complex projects with sensitivity to priorities and shifting demands

•Demonstrated excellence in budget and financial management, strategic financial planning and resource allocation
