Overview

University of Utah Health is seeking an Assistant Controller!


  • Health Care Experience Highly Preferred

This position assists the Controller in directing the organization's accounting functions.

These functions include: preparing and consolidating financial statements, establishing and maintaining internal controls, managing all aspects of the general ledger, providing monthly, quarterly and year-end financial statements, researching accounting issues for compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, analyzing and reporting cost variances, serving as a liaison to external auditors, and supervising accounts payable and general accounting departments.

This position has no responsibility for providing direct patient care.

Our ideal candidate has experience in health care, 6+ years of leadership experience, a Master's degree or greater in Accounting, and PeopleSoft experience.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Performs to required standards for job specific responsibilities and technical competencies.

Talent Management

  • Hiring, training, developing, and communicating with staff.

Financial Management

  • Responsible for developing, monitoring and achieving budget goals for accounting department.

  • Manages labor and non-labor expenses to budget or flex budget.

  • Manages revenue to budget to maximize potential revenue.

  • EPE/Service

  • Responsible for upholding PROMISE standards of direct reports and team members.

Quality

  • Responsible to achieve quality goals for assigned area(s).

  • Manages and promotes continuous process improvements in assigned area(s).

Performance Management

  • Responsible to provide staff feedback on performance, including on-time appraisals and coaching.

  • Responsible to deal with conflicts in a proactive manner and to reach resolution in a timely manner.

Building Relationships

  • Forms positive relationships with staff, peers, and senior leadership to support the mission, vision, values, and performance standards of the organization.

  • Actively engages staff with updates and news as well as involving staff in decisions and work teams. Provides feedback and recognition when appropriate.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Knowledge of GAAP, GASB, accrual base accounting, organizational auditing, fixed asset accounting and tax filing requirements.

  • Ability to keep abreast of current industry events.

  • Extensive knowledge base of different software systems, and have strong usage experience.

  • Demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communications skills.

  • Demonstrated advanced Excel skills.

Qualifications

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related area, or equivalency.

  • Six years of progressively more responsible management experience.

Qualifications (Preferred)

Preferred

  • Master's degree in Accounting.

  • PeopleSoft experience.
