Job Summary

This position has the opportunity to join a team setting that is engaging alumni around aspirational fundraising goals for the College of Health. The college has the largest student body in U of U Health and is among the largest colleges/schools at the university. The college is implementing a new effort to reengage nearly 17,000 alumni. In addition, this position work with individuals, foundations and corporations to raise funds for endowments and annual support. The College is a salient part of the transformation of health care, and this position will help to ensure its successful role through philanthropy.

Assist in organizing and implementing fundraising campaigns and special development projects for the College of Health. Plans or assists with planning receptions and other forms of donor recognition. Plans, develops and manages specific program/events centered on development activities.

Identify, cultivate, and steward alumni for gifts. May visit potential and actual donors with or without the Department Chair, Dean or Director. Directs or assists with development activities for a university department/college including cultivating donors and prospective donors, soliciting gifts, and assuring appropriate acknowledgment of all contributions.

Organize and develop Alumni Association and provide staff support for the Alumni Board. Coordinate events of the Alumni Board and promote alumni participation both in Utah and out of state. Acts as a liaison with volunteer advisory boards, department administrators, donors, university development office, alumni department and community organizations.

Coordinate student engagement campaign. Encourage student engagement at all activities.

Follow up with donors through annual fund and phonathon campaigns.

Identify and maintain information on donors and prospective donors.

Prepares proposals by performing research, coordinating with department board members, meeting with potential donors, corporations or foundations and writing the proposals.

Organizes or assists with the solicitation strategies of donors.

May represent the department /college or University at various community meetings and events.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, related field, or equivalency; three years of fund-raising experience which includes direct solicitation of contributions, volunteer leadership support, written and verbal presentations, and strategy and market development are required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. Experience in grant or proposal writing and a background working with local print and electronic media is preferred. Demonstrated negotiating skills are also preferred.

Proven track record in successful grant writing and corporate solicitation

Prior experience creating a development plan
