Job Summary

The Accounting Specialist follows University policies and procedures and performs a variety of accounting duties that include, but are not limited to processing reimbursements, reconciling monthly purchasing card transactions, evaluating and placing orders, maintaining internal Excel databases, and other duties as assigned.

This position is considered Category I: Mandatory and required on campus or health care facilities to support on-site operations. Employees hired into this category will be required to be physically located at work site ( JFB 203) if they are healthy and without COVID -19 symptoms.

Responsibilities

1. Completes purchasing for the department, professors, and students.

2. Compiles and reallocates department purchasing cards.

3. Maintains and reconciles accounts and makes corrections to journal entries as necessary.

4. Reviews expense and accounting documents for accuracy and appropriate approvals and ensures transactions are charged to the correct account.

5. Prepares and processes purchasing documents.

6. Reviews and reconciles University procurement and purchases.

7. Reconciles monthly management statements and maintains back-up documentation.

8. Processes reimbursements through the ePR system.

9. Must have experience or ability to learn University software.

10. May train & supervise part-time support staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field, plus two years full-time clerical accounting experience or equivalency required. The ability to understand, interpret, and apply University and departmental regulations; demonstrated spreadsheet skills; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. Experience using software programs such as PeopleSoft or Kronos may be required for certain positions.

Preferences

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, Adobe and Outlook.
