Performs a variety of accounting duties that range in level of complexity from clerical accounting duties such as managing receivables or serving as payroll reporter, to more complex duties such as preparing budget or reconciling accounts.
Perform a variety of complex and clerical accounting tasks. Reconcile various monthly Management Reports and Purchase Card Statements using PeopleSoft and research skills; maintain backup records and files. Make corrections to general ledger as necessary. A member of the E-rate team, responsibilities include E-rate reporting and duties as assigned. Responsible for reviewing and paying invoices. Keep accurate hard copy files. Prepare various forms: Purchasing RFP’s, Check Requests, Journal Entries, etc. Process accounts payable invoice payments, solve invoicing problems. Inventory tracking. Work with other accounting personnel and departments in providing requested information or documentation. Performs other duties as required including cross training with other accounting personnel.
Problem Solving: The Accounting specialist follows University policies and procedures and follows applicable state andIRSguidelines. The incumbent refers issues outside of policy or not covered by policy to the supervisor.
The Accounting Specialist has the authority to determine correct account numbers, and ensure correct accounting procedures are followed. The incumbent answers questions from staff and vendors regarding status of PO’s, invoices, and accounting chartfields, etc., and must be able to meet deadlines and establish priorities.

Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field, plus two years full-time clerical accounting experience or equivalency required. The ability to understand, interpret, and apply University and departmental regulations; demonstrated spreadsheet skills; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. Experience using software programs such as PeopleSoft or Kronos may be required for certain positions.
Accuracy and ability to work under pressure with minimal level of supervision is important. Ability to prioritize effectively and multitask preferred.
