Job Summary

The Accounting Clerk plays a critical role in the Department of Physics and Astronomy (lovingly referred to as PandA). While you would be working in the PandA Accounting Office – a background in accounting is not mandatory. The primary duties of this job are making purchases for faculty, staff, and students and charting these to the appropriate account: assigning accounts to purchases others make: and collecting and archiving purchasing documents. This is an entry-level position and training will be provided for the candidate that presents with the best aptitude.

Responsibilities

Purchasing: charging and allocating purchases to designated accounts and sub-accounts – per supervisor designation. Running financial queries and reports. Review monthly transaction and identify and correct errors. Billing and financial transfers as needed. Deposit checks. Work in service of a diverse group faculty, students, and staff. Reception, phone, and shared email. Follow transactions from start to finish. Strong communication and analytical skills required. Preference will be give to those who also have experience and aptitude with Excel.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of experience performing accounting functions and preparing related reports, or equivalency; the ability to use standard office machines, calculators and data input terminals; and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills required.

Preferences

Excel, book keeping, purchasing, and accounting experience preferred. Bring mindful examples of areas where your experience best matches the duties as described above.
