Job Summary

Maintain and reconcile clinical trial accounts according to Clinical Trials Office’s ( CTO ) standard operating procedures, accounting principles and University guidelines. Prepare and analyze financial information, produce trial status reports and financial statements based upon operating data analysis.

Responsibilities

• Prepare real-time financial snapshots of each clinical trial account by performing monthly reconciliation and reporting results to CTO management.

• Streamline clinical trial budget development, preliminary account setup, invoicing, study close-out, and other processes.

• Utilize financial information in PeopleSoft to update internal runsheets and prepare monthly financial reports.

• Perform Internal Financial Review for all uTRAC applications managed by the CTO .

• Prepare, submit and guide the electronic journal entry billing submissions for all CTO service lines.

• Review coordinator effort report preparation, update CTO billing database and review all client and sponsor invoices.

• Review billing processes and analyze billing error trends, report on findings, and issue recommendations for improvement.

• Provide mentorship to CTO Billing Specialists.

• Other related duties as assigned.

Problem Solving

This position requires the ability to apply generally accepted accounting principles, federal cost accounting regulations and University policies and procedures to a variety of situations. The incumbent must be able to interpret complex policies and effectively communicate the information in an easily understood manner. The incumbent is required to provide analysis of each situation and use professional judgement in reaching a solution. The Accountant is expected to recommend changes to accounting based procedures based upon analysis performed and specialized knowledge.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field, plus one year related experience or equivalency required. A thorough understanding of general ledger accounting practices, cost analysis and accounting principles, as well as demonstrated analytical, problem solving, human relations and effective communication skills also required.

Knowledge of PeopleSoft or Access databases may be preferred in some areas.

Familiarity with University of Utah systems, projects, chartfields and accounting processes preferred.
