Job Summary

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering ( CVEEN ) is seeking a full-time accountant to join our team. Strong candidates will be organized, personable, detail-oriented, customer service-oriented, and excited about working with the CVEEN Programs including Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering and Nuclear Engineering.

As the CVEEN Accountant, you will work with faculty, staff and students addressing financial matters such as research budget questions, procurement, travel, and expense reimbursements. The position will be responsible for maintaining and reconciling accounts according to generally accepted accounting principles.

Responsibilities

1. Prepares and assesses budget, revenue, expense, payroll and journal entries, and other accounting documents.

2. Coordinates budget preparation with faculty for contracts, grants and subcontract applications

3. Analyzes and monitors budgets and expenditures for compliance with fiscal accountability and reporting requirements.

4. Monitors project spending to ensure funds received are expended according to federal, state and University regulations

5. Analyzes and forecasts revenue and expenditure trends.

6. Develops accounting systems and documents to support the input and handling of financial data and reports.

7. Interacts with internal and external auditors and participates in auditing projects.

8 Maintains a current knowledge of changing institutional policies and federal requirements governing externally funded grants and contracts.

9. Assists the faculty and students in Grant Purchasing, travel, reimbursements, and key requests.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field, plus one year related experience or equivalency required. A thorough understanding of general ledger accounting practices, cost analysis and accounting principles, as well as demonstrated analytical, problem solving, human relations and effective communication skills also required.

Knowledge of PeopleSoft or Access databases may be preferred in some areas.
