The Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the University of Utah is recruiting for an Academic Pediatric Infectious Diseases Physician to expand our clinical and academic workforce. This is an outstanding opportunity to join a vibrant and collegial academic institution. Responsibilities will include clinical consultation on the inpatient service, tele-ID service and in the Infectious Diseases Clinic, as well as developing an independent research career. Clinical activities will be carried out at Primary Children’s Hospital, a 290-bed children’s hospital ranked among US News & World Report’s Best Hospitals and in the University of Utah and Intermountain Health Care Systems. In addition to clinical service, there is an expectation for academic work, including investigation, education, administration/service, as well as advocacy.
As of July 2020, the Division will include 9 full-time faculty members on the main campus and one at an affiliated hospital; the Division has an active fellowship program. We are currently developing a tele-ID consult and stewardship program to service the neonatal and pediatric beds in the healthcare system that are not at the children’s hospital. Research in the Division currently focuses on infectious disease epidemiology including respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases, antimicrobial stewardship, health services research and value-based care, bacterial genomics, the development and impact of diagnostic tests including metagenomics and deep sequencing, and improving the care of children with cancer and transplants. We have many active collaborations with outstanding researchers at the University Hospital, Intermountain Medical Center, the Salt Lake City VA Medical Center, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Qualified candidates must be Board Qualified/Board Certified in Pediatrics and in Pediatric Infectious Diseases or Infectious Diseases, and must have demonstrated research skills and experience. The selected candidate will receive a faculty appointment in the Department of Pediatrics on the Clinical or Tenure track depending on interest and funding at the academic level commensurate with experience and qualifications.
